BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.13 percent at 3,336.36 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.68 percent lower at 13,532.73 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indexes stood at 708.6 billion yuan (about 105.24 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 764 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Gainers outnumbered losers by 702 to 677 on the Shanghai bourse, while losers outweighed gainers by 1,116 to 1,070 in Shenzhen.
Alcohol enterprises led the losses, with Shede Spirits Co., Ltd. falling 2.84 percent to close at 34.88 yuan per share.
Bucking the downward trend, companies in the coal industry notched solid gains, with shares of Shanxi Xishan Coal and Electricity Power Co., Ltd. rising 9 percent to 5.45 yuan apiece.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.49 percent to close at 2,724.5 points.
