BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.36 percent to 3,272.86 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.64 percent higher at 11,726.4 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 953.29 billion yuan (about 138.73 billion U.S. dollars), up from 944.7 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to media and communication led the gains, while stocks in sectors such as banking and securities suffered the biggest losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.69 percent to close at 2,399.5 points.
